# Dr. Jay Bhattacharya
(born 1968) is a professor of medicine at [Stanford University](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanford_University "Stanford University") and a research associate at the [National Bureau of Economic Research](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Bureau_of_Economic_Research "National Bureau of Economic Research"). He directs Stanford's Center for Demography and Economics of Health and Aging.
With [Martin Kulldorff](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Kulldorff "Martin Kulldorff") and [Sunetra Gupta](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunetra_Gupta "Sunetra Gupta"), he was a co-author in 2020 of the [Great Barrington Declaration](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Barrington_Declaration "Great Barrington Declaration"), which advocated letting the virus spread in lower-risk groups with the aim of [herd immunity](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herd_immunity "Herd immunity"), with "focused protection" of those most at risk.[[5]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jay_Bhattacharya#cite_note-:3-5)
